Press Releases are one of the best ways to start a web site promotion. You may think that your company is too small to take advantage of press releases. You may think they are only for big companies, such as those with a PR or a media department.
If you are talking about mainstream print media, newspapers, magazines, journals, reviews, etc. then you are correct. The world of the Internet is a different place, however, and it is definitely possible to use press releases for your web site promotion, regardless of the size of your company.
Just assume that all companies are equal in terms of web site promotion. You may be working on your own, and not have department size manpower at your disposal, but you can certainly use press releases in your web site promotion.
There are dozens of press release companies that host press releases on their site, and help to distribute your information as well. Most of these are free, but you do need to know how to play by their rules of submission. (This subject will be covered in a future post).
Google loves news, especially fresh news, and a press release will generally rise quickly to the top of Google for your keywords. If your keywords are competitive ones, you may find, however, that there is sometimes not much staying power for a press release.
A press release will usually rise quickly and take in a high position if your keywords are not particularly competitive. If your keywords are competitive, you may see your press releases rise quickly, and it may fall again just as rapidly.
You will probably still be able to see a high position on Google News for quite some time, but releases can sometimes seem like the ebb and flow of the tide within a matter of days. Nonetheless, they are a great way to begin to create an Internet presence, produce high quality back links, and rise quickly to the top of Google.
Subsequent posts will provide detailed information on how to create press releases and where to submit them.
