Which search engine leads the market in search at the beginning of 2010?

As you might have guessed, it is Google.

According to Marketshare, as of December 31st, 2009, Google had an 84.9 percent share of the worldwide market for search.

Of course, this is quite a remarkable accmplishment, however Google does not dominate the market in several countries where local competition is quite fierce, due to cultural and other linguistic factors.

There are at least four countries where Google has stuggled to gain a majority share.
Surprisingly, there are also two countries where Google comes in second to Yahoo.

These are the countries where Google faces the stiffest competition.

1. China – Baidu 77.0 – Google 17.0 (Google launched in China six years later tham Baidu)
2. Japan – Yahoo Japan 51.0 – Google 38.0 (summer 2009 results)
3. Korea – NAVER – 66.0 – DAUM 21.0 – NATE 6.0 – Yahoo Korea 3.0 – Google 2.0 (the most fragmented search market)
4. Russia – Yandex 56.0 – Google 23.0 (Google does not grasp the nuances of Russion that native Yandex has mastered)

At first glance the chart seems to be near complete Google domination. In the preceding four contries, however, Google is the underdog and is fighting an uphill hattle.

Japan search, strangely seems to favor Yahoo over Google. Japan has the third largest Internet usage in the world, after China, and the US.

What will happen this year is anyone’s guess. It is only reasonable to believe that Google will gain market share over it’s competitors worldwide, but in specific countries it could actually lose market share.

The most significant of these markets is China. China accounts for the largest and the fastest growing group of Internet users in the world. Will Google gain or lose market share against native search applications such as Naver (in Korea), or Yandex (in Russia), or Baudu in China?

The search engine battle for market share is not over yet, and heady competition in countries such as China, Korea, and Russia, may prove to be stronger than Google anticipates for 2010 and beyond.

First of all, what are content farms? They are sites that attempt to make money by paying as little as posssible to content creators for answers to questions most often asked on the Internet.

A prime example of this kind of content farm is Demand Media. It is claimed that Demand Media creates over 4,000 pieces of content each day.

In order for writers and content creators to make money for their activity, they need to produce at a very rapid rate, and it is claimed that this emphasis results in large amounts of very low quality writing. This devalues US web site promotion according to a number of blog writers and editors of Internet content.

Use Google’s new real time search, and watch your US web site promotion soar.

According to numerous sources, Google is beginning to implement real time search into their search engine results.

Matt Cutts from Google has stated it will be after the holidays, that recent changes will fully take effect.

Some new results are already starting to appear for high traffic searches. It seems as though there is a major focus on news, blog results and video, but somewhere in the middle of the page their is often a Timeline set of results, with news, and perhaps some Twitter updates in the near future.

This has been a very busy period for Google with no less than 38 new search products in the last 70 days. It seems as though the next big thing is going to be language translation. In Google Wave, there is already an on-the-fly robot translator called Rosy.

Google’s next foray, according to Marissa Mayer, vice president in search products, will be to evolve beyond the English Internet. As it currently stands, Google searches in the user’s native language, and returns results in the user’s native language. Much of Google’s vast index is in English.

The challenge Google has undertaken, is to search using search words translated into all the world languages, search in those languages, and report back the results in the searchers native language.

This a huge challenge, since any machine translation, by definition is less than perfect. The re-translation back into the native language introduces errors into the translation a second time.

Given the nuances of language and the many shortcomings of Google’s translator, (even though it is one of the best ever made), this is perhaps one of the greatest challenges Google has ever undertaken.

This is something that will take many years to develop and hone in order to be effective. It will be very interesting to see how Google handles this new challenge. For bilingual, or multi-lingual users it will be especially interesting to check results in each known language and see how they compare.

It is becoming a cliche that US web site promotion and international business promotion will never be the same.

The search engine robots may visit more often if you are posting every few days, but certainly a once a week visit will assure that there will be fresh content waiting each time the robots visit. The robots will make their own visit schedule regardless of the schedule you tell the search engines, but their visit frequency will depend on how often they find fresh content. As long as you post consistently, you will be visited by the search engines on a regular basis.

After good content, the next most important criteria in web site promotion is to have a well crafted title tag. Not only is the post title seen by your readers in your search results, it is one of the most important pieces of information the search engines will use to index your site.

You will always gain good results by mentioning your keywords prominently in your title. You will also want your blog title to be consistent with your keywords. Experimentation will reveal the best order of keywords, blog post title and secondary keywords, or other phrases will reveal the most effective type of title.

Oh, and don’ t forget that it is not wise to allow your title to exceed a total of 60 characters. Your title risks cut off, if you do not observe this length rule. This appears to be the limit for Google, so it is a good recommendation to follow.

US Web site promotion benefits most from quality content that informs the reader with useful information that benefits them and their interests. Hosted WordPress blogs are high on the list of preferred platforms.

Fresh content is also very important for blogs. Consistent posting will produce consistent web site promotion results. A well-written title tag, with relevant keywords, limited to 70 characters will also boost US web site promotion effectiveness.

Is it possible that a web site promotion blog could have saved Jon and Kate’s marriage, and kept them from divorce?

At first, this idea may not seem plausible, but think about it for a moment. It seems as though from John Gosselin’s point of view, one of the main reasons for Jon and Kate’s divorce was that Jon was left alone with the kids.

His wife began living a more high profile life after the publication of her best selling book, and Jon felt left behind. He has said that he just got tired of having to take care of all the kids while his wife was away.

How many times has this put a strain on the marriage relationship of famous people when one person becomes wildly successful, and the other seems to have been left behind?

What is somewhat puzzling in the story of Jon and Kate, is that both of them, were, and still are, in the public eye. Kate just became more of a public icon, because of her books, and presumably began to earn more money than Jon.

Was this jealousy, or just sour grapes? Either way, Jon could very likely have surpassed Kate’s income from her books, with his own web site promotion blog.

He has a background in IT, so the Internet must have been no mystery to him. At the very least he could have understood the value of blogging for promotion of Jon and Kate.

Jon and Kate’s divorce is all the more tragic if you consider the possibility that something as simple as blogging could possibly have helped them in their marriage.

Although the word wide web covers the entire globe, don’t ignore local search for your web site promotion needs. There is a strong local market for most goods and services that should not be ignored.

There is an easy 3-step method to tap into this local market. Simply submit your business information to the local search of the 3 major search engines.

Simply go to Google Local Business Center and fill out the information required. It is quite straightforward, and merely requires standard information from you on your business and it’s location.

Generally, Google is the fastest to confirm your listing, and it is definitely the place you want to start your US web site promotion.

For Yahoo and Bing, there is a little bit more involved, but it is worth the effort.

For Yahoo Local just visit Yahoo local listings. Since Bing uses a considerable amount of information from Yahoo search, it is easier to get approved by Bing, if you already have been approved by Yahoo. See if there are local business groups or associations that you can join, You may be able to give some kind of presentation at a local meeting, This is an ideal opportunity to introduce yourself.

There are many reasons why WordPress is such a great CMS. Let’s start with the fact that no single piece of software is better optimized for search engine optimization out of the box, with no additional customization than WordPress.
